Magazine Advert Analysis

The artist in the magazine advert is wearing a plain white t-shirt the colour white connotates a person of high status, he also has a silver chain hanging out of his pocket which can also connate high status as well as his wealth. The clothing he is wearing is very plain and simplistic as to not draw focus to 'brands' or 'designers' he may be wearing  this could have been done so the audience just focus on him. The colours in the background are lighter and his hands are coloured in black so it makes him stand out more. In the background we see a block of flats this reflects the style of the artist as most 'grime' artists rap about their poor starts in life, from that image in the background we have an idea what genre of music this belongs to. The poster tells us when the album is to be released, where it can be purchased and downloaded from, what the album cover looks like and also the other artists featuring on the album. Other artists are probably mentioned on the advert to reach out to a wider target audience. The title of the album is 'wretchrospective' which is play on the word 'retrospective' which means to look back at past events, from this we have an idea what the album may be about, the artist is giving an indirect mode of address and looking towards the block of flats suggesting that he is now in a better place and looking back at his past life so the title of the album is linked in with the image on the poster. The poster promotes and advertises the artist in varies ways, at the very top of the page the artists name is written it stands out as its black writing surrounded by a lighter coloured background, the poster also has a black banner write across the middle with the name of the album and the release, the fact it's positioned right in the middle of the poster makes it memorable and also makes it stand out. From the mise en scene we can tell what genre of music the artist belongs to in the background we see a block of flats
which is typical of east and north london areas, where the grime genre of music originated from.
The artist is wearing baggy clothing and jeans which is also typical of the grime music genre
The artist has facial tattoos making him appear slightly intimidating and 'hard' which is in image
often seen in the grime music genre. From the mise en scene its suggested that the target audience
are teenagers from London. The advert is very similar to the album cover making it more
recognizable to anyone buying the product.

Research

I looked at the other album covers of indie rock artists and they all tend to have a very simplistic plain style and the ones that have an artist on the front cover have an indirect mode of address. After doing my research I now know I want my album to have the same kind of theme

Shooting Schedule

December 27th
On my first day of filming I decided to start of filming the narrative side to my music video. I knew the actress in my music video was always quite busy so I thought whilst we were all free I would film as much narrative as possible.  On this day I filmed various shots in several locations including the actress’ house and Beckton Alps, this scenes mainly consisted of the ‘couple’ showing their ‘good times’ together.  I filmed most the beginning of my music video on this day.
January 3rd
On this day I decided to film the performance side to my music video so I took my actor to Shadwell Basin. On this day it was very cold and my actor didn’t know all the lyrics to well so we didn’t film for too long and the footage that we produced wasn’t very good.
January 7th
On this day I decided to film more narrative and more performance. My actress pulled out last minute so I just filmed performance stuff with my actor. I wanted to go back to Beckton Alps to film again but the gate was locked, so I just filmed on Royal Victoria Bridge.
January 10th
On this day I rescheduled with my actress to film more narrative but last minute she called and cancelled.  So I filmed more performance at my house with my actor.
January 11th
My actress called me and told me she was free for a few hours if I still wanted to film, but my actor was preoccupied. So I filmed one scene with just her.

Audience Feedback - My First Draft Music Video

I have done this survey to gain feedback on my first draft music video, 40% of the people surveyed did not understand the narrative side to my music video, I have decided to work o this more s the narrative is more understandable in my final video. 40% of the people surveyed said they wouldn't watch the music video again, this may be because the narrative is slightly unclear, i'm hoping by improving the narrative side to my video it would make for more enjoyable viewing. On the question ' what can I do to improve my video?', people have suggested 'making the narrative clearer' and 'including more close ups of the artist' I am going to try and make these improvements to my final music video.
